I have had my fair share of moments where I feel like my entire life is falling apart. Moments where I felt like everything just fell out of place, and I felt completely helpless.
I am not alone in this, I know that every single human that walks on this Earth has gone through many situations of hardship. This is part of living a human experience.
And we know this in our gut. We know that there isn’t a bad moment that will last forever, but when you are going through a difficult situation, it’s hard to even see a ray of light.
We live in a culture where happiness feels like a MUST. Where you go into social media it seems like everyone’s lives are just perfect. So when you are going through a shitty moment in your life, you suddenly start to feel like an outsider from the rest of humanity.
And far from helping you see a different perspective, this just makes you feel more miserable.
I am here to tell you that you are not an outsider, you are just a human.
Sometimes I feel like I climbed on a moving train that is going so fast that I have no idea what to do except to let it all out in tears. Then I feel angry with myself because I know in my heart I have to be grateful for everything I have in life, and the guilt kicks in.
I have read a whole bunch of personal growth books, attended countless seminars, and learned from the greatest positive minds that exist today. The theory is there, stored in my consciousness, and yet I still have moments in my life where I don’t feel as if I’m in control of anything.
And I learned to be OK with that.
So remember:
It’s OK to allow yourself to feel what you have to feel in the moment.
It’s OK to experience the wide range of emotions that you are here to experience.
It’s OK to be in our darkness sometimes.
Do not judge yourself when you are feeling down, it only makes the situation worse. We are human and we are entitled to feel different things.
Our life is like our heartbeat. It has ups and downs. A constant cycle that reminds us we are ALIVE, and everything that goes down will go up again. Everything has a side of darkness and a side of light.
Everything is a balance.
Once you realize that you do have permission to feel the way you want to feel at that moment, it frees your burden and makes it a lot easier to climb back up your mountain, because then you don’t have to carry the extra baggage with you.
And when you try to shut off the emotions that feel uncomfortable or that you label as “negative”, you shut off all of your other emotions as well. So don’t do that! Don’t force yourself to feel something you are not feeling, or look for ways to numb yourself out of something painful.
We are not meant to stay in an emotion forever, so allow yourself to feel what you have to feel, and then it will pass.
The danger lies if you decide to stay in your dark place for good. You have to keep in mind that being there does not SERVE you, and the only one that can get you out of the hole is YOU.
But this has to be done with grace, and at your own pace. One step at a time.
Have you ever had a time in your life that felt like everything broke?
